Divorce - Remarring in "Filipino - Foreigner Marriage" The only exception is found in Article 26 of the Family Code of the Philippines, which states that “where a marriage between a Filipino citizen and a foreigner is validly celebrated and a divorce is thereafter validly obtained abroad by the alien spouse capacitating him or her to remarry, the Filipino spouse shall have capacity to remarry under Philippine law.” Download the article

Annulment This is a particular problem for Filipinas who are abused by their husbands or who have been abandoned. In either of these situations, the woman remains legally bound to her husband. She remains married and cannot get divorced, whether her husband left her or she left him. |
