A little serious of our mind:

Try to imagine, that your grandchildren can´t speak with you in your language......

Learn your family the language of the roots, so your family - children can speak their language from childhood!

Learn your family the culture of the roots, so your family understand and respect the roots e.g. Mano Po!

THE PHILIPPINES NATIONAL COSTUME

This is the traditional clothing of the filipino, its one of the unique feminine and simply beautiful national costume in Asia.
Actually this is originally called as barot saya and because it is a philippine costume it was coined filipiniana. This dress is no where to be found because it can only be seen in the Philippines.
This filipiniana has different kinds - from the baro at saya, then evolved to María Clara, where the panuelo on the neck was added, then this María Clara evolved to traje de mestiza, where the half filipino half Spanish, simply called mestiza are the one whose commonly wearing it. This traje de mestiza has a featured of butterfly sleeves but remained its panuelo on the neck (look at the V-shape), then it evolved as terno the modern filipino dress where the panuelo was removed but maintained its butterfly sleeves. Now it can be seen with different kind of designs!

descriptions and history

Maria Clara gown

The Maria Clara gown is a traditional gown worn by women in the Philippines. This Filipino dress takes its name from María Clara, the mestiza protagonist of the national epic Noli Me Tangere, penned in 1890 by Filipino national hero José Rizal.

The Maria Clara dress originated from the conventional baro't saya of early Filipino women.

María Clara

whose full name is María Clara de los Santos, is the mestiza heroine in Noli Me Tangere, a novel by José Rizal, the national hero of the Republic of the Philippines.

Baro't Saya

Baro't saya is the unofficial national dress of the Philippines and is worn by women.

Fans are called "paypay", "paipay", "pamaypay", "abaniko (abanico)" in the Philippines.

The abaniko, together with the baro't saya, was once a part of a lady's attire. Read about the various ways of using and holding the abaniko may convey different meanings.

--------

Si la mujer escondía los ojos detrás del abanico, estaba diciendo a su interlocutor que lo quería.

If the woman hid her eyes behind the fan, she was saying to her would-be suitor that she loved him.

Si colocaba el abanico sobre la mejilla izquierda, la respuesta era: No; y si lo posaba sobre la derecha, la respuesta era: Sí.

If she placed the fan on her left cheek, the answer was: No; and if she placed it on the right cheek the answer was: Yes.

Si la mujer se abanicaba con rapidez, significaba que estaba comprometida; y si lo hacía lentamente, le transmitía que estaba casada.

If the woman fanned herself quickly it meant that she was engaged; and if she fanned herself languidly, she indicated that she was married.

Piña

is a fiber made from the leaves of a pineapple plant and is commonly used in the Philippines. Since piña is from a leaf, the leaf has to be cut first from the plant. Then the fiber is pulled or split away from the leaf. Most leaf fibers are long and somewhat stiff. Each strand of the piña fiber is hand scraped and is knotted one by one to form a continuous filament to be handwoven and then made into a piña cloth.

“I probably will not be a model who wears the clothes on the runway.
That's what I said when I was young whenever my mother brings me to watch the fashion shows. Then, I’ll see the designer, the last person who receives all the applause after the show. Born in Bataan province, fashion designer Oliver Tolentino became the first Philippines-based designer to expand to the United States when he opened a Los Angeles boutique on Melrose Avenue in 2009. Within a year, he was chosen as one of nine finalists in the Motion Picture Academy's Oscars Designer Challenge at Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week. Eco-friendly materials have become an important part of Oliver's fashion sense, and he promotes his native country's fabrics internationally by including them in his collections. "My country has been green long before it was fashionable," he explains. "The Philippines has been turning pineapple leaves and abaca plant leaves into fabric for hundreds of years; so out of national pride, I want to show how elegant 'green' can be. ... Piña, what we call the fabric from pineapple fiber, is naturally off-white with an organza texture. It creates vintage-looking gowns, but also can be dyed vibrant colors."
