1946 Philippine Proclamation of Independence

In 04 July 1946, US President Harry Truman through US High Commissioner to the Philippines Paul V. McNutt finally recognized independence of Philippine state. It ended almost forty years (since 1901) of American rule in the Philippines. Consequently, this recognition means that the United States' representative government Commonwealth of the Philippines has ended, which started in November of 1935. Prior to this event, however, the Filipinos conducted the last election under the Commonwealth, which elected Manuel Roxas as the president. After declaration of independence, Roxas established the Third Republic of the Philippines making him the first president of the said republic.

Video: Life on the line

In the chaos of Manilas choked roads, a hair-rising mode of transport has evolved: trolley cars that speed through the citys rail tracks, evading frequent trains and the prying eyes of the police.

No traffic, laughs Henarco, pushing a parasol-shaded trolley along a railway track at great speed. Hes been running these rails for 18 years, and at half the price of public transport and a fraction of the travel time, business is booming. But we have enemies, Henarco says, referring to the high-speed trains, which come every 15 minutes, when someone hears the hoot we just jump off! The trains arent the only enemies for the community of trolley drivers who live and work here. They also face periodic raids by the railway police. Dinner, lunch, everything on this trolley, says Henarco, who was relocated from a shanty town around these tracks, which was demolished by the rail authorities 2 years ago. - Just play, the black screen is just the start

AGRARIAN REFORM AND PHILIPPINE POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT

Landownership problem and control of resources remains as a political development issue in the Philippines. Agrarian reform is a necessary condition for agricultural modernization and rural industrialization and the fundamental mooring for global competition. Agrarian Reform has contributed to improvement of the socio-economic conditions of landless farmers and political development of the Philippines in terms of engaging the landless in the process of policy making and distribution of large private landholdings to the landless. Modalities giving peasants a stake in society such as decisive role in agrarian legislations, engaging them in dialogue to resolve agrarian cases, presenting manifesto pinpointing their criticisms and recommendations on implementing rules and guidelines, identification of farmer beneficiaries and lands to be covered, negotiation on the mode of land acquisition and distribution and computation of land values, have significantly influence the process of democratization and establishment of participatory institutions at the local and national levels.

This is an entry to the "Project Inspire: 5 Minutes to Change the World" initiative (www.5MinutestoChangetheWorld.org). The project idea aims to promote food self-sufficiency, community consolidation and women empowerment by assisting them in starting and growing an agro-ecological community garden. The concerned community in Rizal, Philippines, is slowly abandoning self-food production to work on odd-jobs outside the community. It is hoped that with the project, community members will be encouraged to go "Back to the Roots" --- to bring back their food self-sufficiency while retaining a cash source, to bring back their community consolidation and to remind them of the women's potential to earn and lead.

Saving a Fishery and Coral Reef - Apo Island

In a remote fishing village in the Philippine archipelago, coastal fishers responded to falling fish stocks by working harder to catch them. The combination of dynamite, longer workdays, and more advanced gear caused stocks to fall faster. This initiative sparked a renaissance of not only their fishery, but also their cherished way of life.

Visas, Permits Immigration for Foreigners in the Philippines

If you will not be relocating to the Philippines and wish to stay in the Philippines longer than 21 days you will most likely be required to obtain a non-immigrant (temporary) visa. Generally non-immigrant visas are issued for travel to the Philippines for a specific purpose and for a set duration. Aliens entering the Philippines may qualify for the following visa categories:

Aliens admitted as nonimmigrants cannot remain in the Philippines permanently. To obtain permanent admission, a nonimmigrant alien must depart voluntarily to some foreign country and procure from the appropriate Philippine consul the proper visa and thereafter undergo examination by the officers of the Bureau of Immigration at a Philippine port of entry for determination of his admissibility in accordance with the requirements.

Help us to get more Links, Photo & Video on "About Philippines"

Please send such "things"

We have never ask for payment for link or place - will never do it, and no-one can "pay for a place - add" on our sites incl. in the Photo & VideoStation, and we use ONLY recommended link - photos - videos on our sites recommended - sent - given from persons from Philippines or persons with relation to Philippines. Unfortunately, so sometimes we get "things" and use them and so later have to erase them, because someone tells he - she owe it and has copyright, so please control, that you have the right to give it to us for upload, and try to tell, why you think, you have that right

Remember, that we have to trust both YOU, who have recommended - sent - given it & later the person, who says the link - video is illegal - wrong

PLEASE tell, if you think, a link or video, which we have got and uploaded to our sites is ILLEGAL - wrong, send a message with the link to us and tell WHY, so at once we can erase it - please look HERE (opens in a new windows)

You are always welcome to click and use Contact - Send a mail to us
